Dipylidium caninum egg packet. These contain 2 - 63 embryonated eggs (av 15 - 25) each egg is spherical 35 - 60 microns wide and contains a hexacanth (oncosphere) 20 - 30 microns wide. Ctenocephalides felis felis are the intermediate hosts. Flea larvae are infected by eating the eggs in the egg capsules passed from the intestine of the definitive hosts, cats, dogs and occasionally humans.
